Dinges Fire Company partnered with LION in the fall of 2019 to offer our customers a head to toe PPE solution, including care and maintenance, along with their industry leading training tools and props.
Based out of Dayton, Ohio, LION started at the end of the 19th century as a dry goods store. By 1941, they were supplying 21161 electrically heated flying suits during World War II. Over the next 2 decades, they started operating in the firefighter station uniform market.
In 1970, they moved into the firefighter turnout gear business – and the rest is history. LION continues to be an innovative leader in the fire service market using collaboration from real end users to deliver solutions that actually work for first responders.
LION is still a family owned and managed company with stable family ownership.
LION is big enough to deliver on the largest contracts but small enough to care that every emergency responder and firefighter that uses our equipment gets the features they need to be safe and successful on every call.
LION is the largest provider of training equipment and facilities for first responders, having built the last three largest first responder training facilities in the world.
LION provides turnout gear to 7 of the 10 largest fire departments in the US and 25 of the top 50 and is the largest supplier of chem-bio protective garments for the US Military and National Guard civil support teams.
LION Innovations
- IsoDri® Moisture Management System reduces the turnout gear’s water intake to make the gear lighter weight after water exposure, dry faster, and safer in a high-heat environment.
- SemperDri – LION’s innovative thermal liner to reduce water gain from fireground activities by inserting a special treated thermal lining material to the bottoms of the arms and legs. Lessening the water absorbed and migrating up the arm or leg of the thermal liner averts unnecessary weight to the gear which can pull the garment down. SemperDri is standard on every piece of firefighter turnout gear LION produces.
- Lite-N-Dri water resistant cushioning is a dense material that provides added thermal protection to high-compression areas of the joints (knees, shoulders, elbows) and yoke, while resisting water absorption and making heat transfer slower, improving the firefighter protection.
