Founded is 1898, Bullard is a leading manufacturer of high-quality personal protective equipment and systems including thermal imagers, hard hats, firefighter and rescue helmets, supplied air respirators, powered air-purifying respirators, and air quality equipment. Today, Bullard is a 5th generation family owned enterprise, headquartered in Cynthiana, Kentucky and led by CEO Wells Bullard. Their Board of Directors has been led by Edward “Jed” Bullard since 1998.
Edward Dickinson Bullard started with supplying carbine lamps and mining equipment for workers in the western US. After his son returned from World War I, they transitioned to making protective headgear – when the “Hard Boiled” hat was introduced in 1919. Over a decade later during the Golden Gate Bridge construction, Bullard supplied not only the hard hats, but they also designed an air respirator for those blasting the steelwork before paint application.
Bullard developed their first fire helmet in 1930, introducing fiberglass composite in 1947. By 1983, they had the first NFPA approved thermoplastic fire helmet with a ratchet suspension system for simple sizing adjustments.
In 1998, Bullard built off their current fire safety products to introduce their first Thermal Imaging Camera. Focusing on three key point of ergonomics, durability, and simplicity has made Bullard a top brand in the firefighter TIC market over two decades later.
